professional development
CHILD Australia is funded by the Commonwealth Government’s Inclusion and Professional Support Program (IPSP) to manage the Professional Support Coordinator programs in the Northern Territory.
The Professional Support Coordinator programs provide professional development and support to early childhood professionals in Australian Government Approved Childcare Services (AGACCS) and aim to improve the quality of care provided in childcare settings.
PSC NT subcontract Professional Support Service Providers (PSSP’s) to deliver professional development and support.
Professional Development and support falls into 3 main areas:
1. Professional Development – Calendar Training
In the area of Professional Development, PSC NT identify the training needs of early childhood education and care staff through an annual state-wide needs analysis. The results of this are used in developing a scheduled professional development program or “Calendar”.
Professional Development Workshops are offered throughout the state, with costs subsidised by the PSC.
2. Professional Development – Customised Training
Customised training is also available, the need for such support usually being identified as a result of contact made with the PSC or an Inclusion Support Facilitator. This form of training is tailored to a service’s specific needs, but can include other services if similar PD needs have been identified.
PSC NT also coordinates ongoing professional development using action research methodology to support the professional learning of Inclusion Support Agencies (including Inclusion Support Facilitators) and the Indigenous Professional Support Unit.
PSC NT provide professional development and support to early childhood services, ISA’s and IPSU in the following areas:
- Leadership and management;
- Relationships and partnerships;
- Play-based curriculum; and
- National Quality Framework and other mandatory requirements.

3. On-Line Training
Through One World for Children Pty. Ltd., a Professional Support Service Provider, PSC NT provide a range of online training sessions that are available to eligible Northern Territory early childhood services.
Online sessions are conducted in a virtual classroom facilitated by a qualified, professional trainer. These sessions feature all of the same qualities as a face to face session with lots of interaction between the participants and the trainer. Sessions feature a range of innovative learning tools which may include an interactive white board, Powerpoint presentations, video clips, slide shows, web tours and two-way voice communication.
These workshops will offer great flexibility with sessions being held both in and out of business hours. Travel is no problem, with staff and carers being able to participate in in-service training from the convenience of their home or workplace. There is also no need to worry if your computer skills are a little rusty. The software is easy to use and helpful technical support is available during the session if you encounter any problems.
Costs: PSC NT will fully subsidise online training to eligible services.
